The Soho/Solo project is an EU project funded by the Interreg Atlantic programme.
The Interreg IIIB 'Atlantic Area' Programme concerns trans-national co-operation in regional development, its principal objective is to enhance socio-economic cohesion and to reinforce sustainable development initiatives within the Atlantic regions of Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal and the Canaries.
The region of Beira Interior is one of richest
cultural regions of the country.
We can know the industrial past of the region if we go to
Covilhã and visit the Museum of Laníficios
,where we can see how the cloth were treated in the XVIII
century.
After if we decide to visit the small village of Seia we
can go to another museum called the Museum of Pão
where we can seen all the evolution of the Portuguese bread
in about 3500 m².Right beside the museum we can find
a space dedicated to cultural, pedagogical and entertainment
activities for adults and children.
Also in Seia we can visit a museum dedicated
to toys. It is called Museu do Brinquedo where children
can have fun and grow-ups can remember their childhood.
This space has several rooms dedicated to various thematics,
a library, an auditorium, a workshop and a sales section.
Back to Covilhã you can also visit the Museum
of Wine where you can buy some of the tastiest wine of the
region.
NATURE
If you prefer Nature you can visit the Natural Park of
Serra da Estrela which is one of the best biogenetic reserves
of Europe and has the biggest Glacier Valley of all Europe.
We can find the highest point of Portugal in Serra da Estrela
and enjoy the amazing view and the natural beauty of these
mountains that give to the visitors an amazing feeling of
peace.
There you can enjoy yourself riding a bike around the Viriato
Lake or seeing a wonderful panorama of all the region and
even Spain, in Varanda dos Carqueijais , Penhas da Saúde
or even in the highest point of the mountains called Torre
where you almost reach the 2000 m of height. This is the
perfect place if you like to practise winter sports. You
can even go to sky school right in the top of the mountains.
If you prefer you can also climb the sharp mountains of
the region.
If you like you can enjoy a thermal treatment in the villages
of Manteigas or Unhais da Serra.
You can also visit natural spots of the area enjoying their
natural beauty as the wonderful Nave de Santo António,
or the amazing Três Cântaros.
You can also see a brilliant monument made in honour of
Nossa Senhora da Estrela which was carve in the rocks by
António Duarte in the fourties.
