BEIRA INTERIOR region local economy
  • The Beira Interior economy is mostly sustained by agriculture and by the woollen industry that has been facing in the last few years some problems. The main sectors that exist in the region are the agriculture and sylvan , the woollen and the clothing , the energy and the fuel , the wood and the furniture sector, the paper and publishing, the construction and the recover of old buildings and even the sector of tourism as the increasing number of hotels and restaurants in the area show.
  • As a matter of fact, in spite of all the problems that the local economy has been facing of the last couple of years, Beira Interior is still a place which offers excellent opportunities and needs new investments specially on the local products that we have to offer.
  • Lately we have assisted to the creation of small and medium enterprises that have been trying to introduce new forms of development in the region. In the last few years we have been assisting to a major technological investment mostly due to the University. This institution brought to the region a new dynamics. Trough the years several technological and scientific activities have being promoted. But the university is not only institution responsible for this development. The Polytechnic schools of Guarda and Castelo Branco as well as the investigation centres which exist in the area also play an important role in the development of the region.
  • Beira Interior is then one excellent place to invest. Here you can easily have access to culture, health, teaching and investigation, a great level of environment and security and even a specialized sector of services which is assured by the University and the Polytechnics.
  • If we take the local opportunities that the region has to offer we will have the perfect place to invest. This region still has a lot to offer and needs to be urgently developed in order to promote the welfare of the region and of all the people who live and work here.
