1. JOB OPPORTUNITIES
In this region a great number of people tend to look for a job abroad.
That's why the unemployment rate in the region is lower than in the rest
of the country.
In spite of the numbers this is still one of the main problems of the
region because most people don't have professional qualifications which
causes a strong structural unbalance between offer and aim. Nevertheless,
the university of Beira Interior and the Polytechnic Institutes of Guarda
and Castelo Branco will soon assure the qualification of technicians in
a sufficient number playing an important role in the region's development.
2. START UP INCENTIVES
In the last couple of years several organizations with governmental support
have being developing several projects in order to attract new international
investments to the region and to encourage young people to invest spreading
the quality of typical Portuguese products not only at a national but
also at an international level.
3. EDUCATION
Nowadays educations is one of the most important issues for the
development of a region.
The region of Beira Interior has several primary schools spread all over
the region and many secondary schools which are mostly concentrated in
the main cities of the area. This secondary schools not only prepare students
to go to the university but some of them provide a technical education
for students who want to start working without getting a degree. But this
type of education it's not only provided by secondary schools. In the
last few years several institutions have adopted the same system and are
achieving their, and even students, main purposes.
Beira Interior has three major centres where you can get a degree. They
are the University of Beira Interior which has given a great contribution
for the technological development of the region and the Polytechnic Institutes
of Guarda and Castelo Branco whose role has been equally important.
4. INFRASTRUCTURE
- Road Network
Beira Interior has an important and a modern road network which has
recently been improved with the opening of the A23. This efficient road
network allows the development of the various economical activities
of the region and assures the quick transportation of people for almost
all over the country .
- Rail Network
The region of Beira Interior also offers a rail network which includes
all the major cities of the region and ends in the capital of the country,
Lisbon.
- Air Network
One of the major cities of Beira Interior , Covilhã, has a small
air-field which assures national flights. In spite of being a quite
small airport yet ,there are several projects in order to improve and
to enlarge the air-field so that it's potentialities can be explored
improving the region's development.
